Nigerian international Mikel Obi has hailed former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho as the man that helped shape him into the player and man he is today.

The Portuguese signed the Blues star from Lyn Oslo and despite Mikel’s reckless start and clumsy challenges in his first games for the Blues, Mourinho promised to refine him and make him a world class player in two years and 11 years on, the Nigerian is one of the finest midfielder in the premier league still waxing strong at Stamford Bridge.

The Nigerian has seen just one red card during his time at Chelsea and that came during his first season on 14, October, 2006 in a brutal clash against Reading - the game also witnessed a wicked head injury to Petr Cech and that is responsible for the Arsenal man wearing a head gear anytime he is on the pitch.
Ahead of Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge today, Mikel revealed to Standard Sport: “…It was always great to work with him. It is because of him that I am the player and man I am today. He brought me to light, he fought to bring me to Chelsea from Manchester United. I will always be grateful to him for what he’s done for me.”
Mikel is yet to play any match for Chelsea this season and although he is fit, it is highly unlikely that he will have the opportunity to face Jose Mourinho as Chelsea manager Antonio Conte prefers Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante to anchor the midfield.
