President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that the nation will soon come out of her current economic recession and become great once again.
"I assure you that
we are going to come out of this economic doldrums soon," he said
yesterday in Benin during the grand finale rally of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) for the Edo State governorship election.
He added: "We are
almost out of insecurity problem and we are going to make Nigeria great
again, we are going to be very proud of our country once again," he
said.
He noted that Nigeria is a nation of great human and material resources.
The President
referred Nigerians to the slogan he coined 30 years ago when he was Head
of State. "We have no other country but Nigeria and we must remain here
and savage it together," he said, stressing that the slogan was still
valid.
"No matter where
you go, you may survive the Sahara desert and if you are lucky you are
not killed or drown in the Mediterranean Sea but when you get there, the
mere colour of your skin will be a problem for you no matter how
knowledgeable you are," he said.
He called on the
people of the state to vote for the APC candidate in the Saturday
election for continued development in the state.
"I congratulate
Obaseki who is a seasoned person and I recommend him to you so that you
will continue to grow. You have got an incredible team, you better hold
tight and make sure they succeed," Buhari said.
Governor Akinwunmi
Ambode of Lagos state said Buhari's presence at the rally showed the
level of importance he attached to the culture and political economy of
Edo state.
Ambode, who was the
chairman APC governorship campaign team, said Edo state had witnessed
the best developmental projects under governor Oshiomhole more than any
other period in the last 17 years.
"Governor
Oshiomhole has laid the right foundation for progressive governance. The

"Remember that on
Saturday it is not over until it is over. You must go and vote for the
APC and Obaseki so that Edo state would continue to have more schools,
roads, hospital and other infrastructural development," he said.
Earlier, the APC
national chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun had urged the people of the
state to choose between the 10 years of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) without progress and the eight years of APC with monumental
development and progress.
While urging the
people to vote for the APC, he said Oshiomhole was committed to the
development of the state and had done his bit, adding that now "we have a
technocrat who had gone through the rigours with him to continue from
where he stopped".
In his remark, APC
candidate, Godwin Obaseki, said if he was elected he would continue with
the development already laid by governor Oshiomhole.
He said APC had shown that Edo state was viable and should be voted for to ensure continuity, progress and consolidation.
ss. The continuity
of APC government is sure way to success.
Lagosians have been
voting for continuity since 1999 and the results are there for everyone
to see. Edo state can be another Lagos and this is why you need Obaseki
now," he said.
In his address,
Governor Adams Oshiomhole, said the election was between a party that
had performed in its eight years' tenure and the one that looted the
resources throughout its 10 years in government.
